This episode is an interview with Noelle St Clair of Calvert Foundation. Calvert Foundation offers unsecured notes (although they have protections built in – they are not insured) to Socially Responsible Investing (SRI) investors. The notes can be held in a brokerage account or purchased directly through Calvert – they can also be purchased at MicroPlace.com. It works like a bond, you lend money for a period of time (1-5 yrs) you receive an interest and at the end of the term you get your money back (or you can roll it into another note). The money they raise goes towards loans for low income people who may otherwise have difficulty getting access (community investing, microcredit, microfinance) – domestic and international – in Episode 5 we will be discussing the Calvert Foundation impact report.
