Generation Investment Management has gained some recent attention because of their recently reported above market returns for Socially Responsible Investing and also because their chairman is Al Gore.
I called Generation Income and found that their investment opportunities are limited. They have two investment funds – Global Equity and Asia Equity. The Global Equity fund is currently closed – there is a multi-year waiting list that is also currently closed. The minimum investment is $1 million and you need to be super-accredited. The fund seems to be targeted at institutional investors – not individuals. The Asia Equity fund is open but the same minimum requirements apply ($1M minimum).
Generation was established in April 2004 as an independent, private, investment management partnership with offices in London and New York.
The Generation team represents a diverse mix of people from around the world representing more than 20 countries and speaking over 25 languages. Our investment team was founded by bringing together seasoned investment analysts with leaders from the sustainability research field.
Generation’s investment approach is based on our conviction that sustainability research integrated into a rigorous traditional investment process can deliver superior investment returns.
Generation has built a global research platform to integrate sustainability research into fundamental financial analysis.
We focus on key drivers of global change, including climate change and environmental degradation; poverty and development; water and natural resource scarcity; pandemics and healthcare, and demographics, migration and urbanisation.
These global challenges pose risks and create opportunities which if not recognised can materially affect a company’s ability to sustain profitability and deliver returns. Our research plays an important role in our assessment of the quality of a business, its management team, and ultimately how we value a business.
Our Advisory Board, convened by our Chairman Al Gore, comprises a group of global thinkers whose depth of knowledge and experience of a broad set of sustainability issues helps us anticipate the changing context for business.
Generation’s vision is to embed sustainability into the mainstream capital markets, and our core values reflect our commitment to responsible citizenship. A proportion of the Firm’s profitability funds the The Generation Foundation, which will support global non-profit sustainability initiatives.
